Breathtaking presence
Based on the already stylish Vauxhall Astra hatchback, the new Vauxhall Astra GTC introduces an entirely new level of firm sports identity. Moulded-in sills, flared wheel arches, deep grille and a muscular shoulder line give the GTC a strong, purposeful form and an indication of intent, yet there’s balance and a crisp cleanliness to the distinctive coupe lines. It’s authentic, and it’s beautiful.
Daytime running lights, integral wrap-around headlights and a chrome bar reflect the Vauxhall family elegance at the front, with LED taillights making the Astra GTC a sight to behold after dark. Chrome window detailing adds a touch of refinement, while 18-inch wheels bring the finishing touch. Or, for those who want more, you can specify 19 or 20-inch versions instead…
Sharp performance
Shortening the straights and straightening out corners, the new Vauxhall Astra GTC features an agile chassis with sporting suspension and is powered by a choice of four eager engines. Three petrol options all feature turbochargers and six-speed gearboxes, and range from the 47.9mpg (combined cycle) 1.4i 16v with variable valve timing to the adrenaline-pumping 180PS of the 1.6i 16v. There’s also a 2.0CDTi that delivers an exciting 165PS but still returns 57.6mpg (combined cycle), with just 129g/km of CO2.
Fast yet friendly
The Vauxhall Astra GTC is a genuine sports coupe, yet its clever design makes it perfectly viable for daily use. The Easy Entry system gives unprecedented access to the rear seats, which employ the 60/40 folding split you would expect in any hatchback, plus a load-through feature as standard. Both driver and front passenger enjoy the hugely practical storage solutions used in the Astra five-door.
Trim can be specified in either Sport or SRi. The Sport features an interior in black cloth, while the SRi is available in either black or red. Choose the ergonomic and supportive sports seats, and soft-touch Nappa leather is available with silver stitching and piping.
There is also an integrated entertainment and information system that’s as useful and intuitive to use as it is easy on the eye. And the Astra GTC further benefits from its Infinity Sound System. This uses digital sound processing to fine-tune the audio signal and deliver it to eight premium speakers, located precisely within the cabin. Sound reproduction and definition have to be heard to be believed.
