BMW and MINI Peter Vardy raise money for sick kids
Edinburgh’s Royal Hospital for Sick Children received a boost this weekend as Peter Vardy Ltd handed over a cheque for £4,500 at hospital’s open day.
The Peter Vardy BMW and MINI dealerships on Seafield Road raised the impressive amount of money in just six months by holding a casino night, taking part in a raft race, selling home baking and running raffles.
The money will be used for ‘Snoozeling Equipment’ which helps the children relax and sleep. The equipment will located in Calareidh House, part of the Sick Kids Hospital which looks after severely disabled children who have a lack of mobility.
Peter Vardy, Chief Executive at Peter Vardy said: “Being able to donate this money to Edinburgh’s Royal Hospital for Sick Kids means a great deal to us as a company. Fundraising and giving back to the community is something that has always been high on our agenda and will continue to be in years to come.”
The purpose-built homes at Calareidh House make it possible for children and young people to stay at home by providing a welcoming second home, enabling parents and carers to take regular breaks away from the exhausting demands of caring for young people with complex needs.
Each home is a nine-bedded bungalow, with single bedrooms, lounge, conservatory, dining kitchen. therapies rooms with special equipment and special sensory gardens. The corridors are designed to be wider than normal to accommodate a number of wheelchairs, while children and young people who need long-term care can decorate their own rooms. Young people and their families were involved in the design of both homes.
