A precisely designed network of suspension, engine management, brakes and tyres, plus an array of electronic sensors, work in unison to keep the BMW X5 safely on track, even in the most demanding situations. The standard airbag package and the restraint system, featuring seatbelt tensioners and force limiters, deliver split-second protection for the occupants should a collision be unavoidable. And the sturdy bodyshell complies with all relevant crash safety standards worldwide, including with regard to the optional third-row seats.
Excellent performance combines with equally excellent fuel consumption values to produce smooth responsiveness and muscular power. The straight six-cylinder engine in the BMW X5 xDrive30d with common rail direct fuel injection, four-valve technology and turbocharger produces an impressive 173 kW (235 hp) and a top torque of no less than 520 Nm. Elastic acceleration is another speciality - from 0 to 100 km/h in just 8.1 seconds. The BMW X5 xDrive35d needs just 7.0 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h with a top speed of 235 km/h and 286 hp.
Thanks to xDrive, the BMW X5 maintains perfect traction even on difficult road conditions. This intelligent system uses its Dynamic Stability Control sensors to detect the early signs of instability and reacts instantly as needed. It distributes engine power flexibly and variably to each axle: the axle with the greatest traction receives the most power, delivering optimum road-holding, perfect performance on bends and excellent forward thrust.
