The New BMW 5 Series Features
It's not about needing to be fast. Nor about trying to be beautiful.
The BMW 5 Series offers dynamics, functionality and style converge in an effortless, compelling synthesis. The sporting elegance of the long wheelbase, the lightweight alloy wheel rims as standard, the short overhangs: these are not the result of chance. They are the logical consequences of agile rear-wheel drive and generous interior space. After all, true style is never just a pose.
Available in Saloon, Touring and Gran Turismo models.
Design
Open the door and the optional illuminated door sills welcome you inside. Take your place in the newly designed comfort seats. Get behind the optional sports steering wheel and you'll see: you're already exactly where you want to be. It's a result of the sense of exclusive spaciousness inside the BMW 5 Series, plus the sophisticated new materials, such as nappa leather, bamboo and aluminium. There are more storage options, too, and the central console has been redesigned - because when it comes to your comfort, every detail counts.
Safety
A new-generation system for driver, passenger and side airbags is an important element of the BMW 5 Series safety package. A high-speed optical bus system controls the precise timing and extent of inflation of each airbag. The improved head airbag system (Advanced Head Protection System) protects occupants in a side impact by inflating side airbags and a protective curtain airbag across the side windows.
Engine
Numbers can be fascinating: just take the BMW 550i's eight-cylinder petrol engine. Its vital statistics are 270 kW (367 hp) at 6,300 rpm, zero to 100 km/h in 5.2 seconds and 10.9 litres per 100 km. What's more, this-equipped V8 delivers outstanding pulling power throughout the rev range, with more than 80% of its peak torque available from as early as 1,500 and staying online right up to 6,400 rpm. It all adds up to 100% driving enjoyment. The BMW 540i needs just 6.1 seconds to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h with a top speed of 250 km/h and 306 hp. Efficient Dynamics
BMW EfficientDynamics represents a package of intelligent initiatives that deliver significant reductions in fuel consumption and emissions - while simultaneously boosting driving performance. The BMW 5 Series is one of the first BMW vehicles to offer a whole range of efficiency-enhancing technologies: High Precision Injection, Brake Energy Regeneration and a number of improvements in the drivetrain. Together, they provide a uniquely effective solution to the seeming contradiction between increased performance and reduced consumption.
