The BMW X6 Features
The BMW X6 is the world’s first Sports Activity Coupé. It combines the agility, performance and athletic design of a big BMW Coupé with the versatility and raised seating position of an SAV. Once again, BMW has defined a totally new vehicle concept. What’s more, the BMW X6 offers two world premieres: Dynamic Performance Control (fitted as standard), and the all-new Twin Turbo V8 petrol engine with High Precision Injection - the most efficient engine in its class.
Design
The BMW X6 is a sporty, agile addition to the BMW X family. The side view shows the elegant proportions of a BMW Coupé. The roofline flows down to the rear end cutoff in a gentle curve. The overhang stretches the silhouette, while two “character lines” underscore the dynamic wedge shape. When seen from the front and rear, all the typical BMW X characteristics are in evidence: the horizontal lines and prominent wheel arches emphasise the power, breadth and presence of the BMW X6.
Safety
A complex, perfectly orchestrated overall safety system ensures maximum safety for all occupants. The system, which comprises seatbelt, airbag and steering systems, is steered by integrated safety electronics that can determine the type and severity of an accident in milliseconds, then trigger the right airbags at the right settings at exactly the right moment - leaving the remaining airbags available to protect occupants in the event of a follow-up collision. Should the car roll over sideways without hitting anything first, a specially developed rollover sensor linked to the Dynamic Stability Control (DSC) system triggers the head airbags and seatbelt tensioners.
Engine
Both diesel engines in the BMW X6 xDrive30d and the BMW X6 xDrive35d use state-of-the-art common rail diesel technology for higher performance and singularly low consumption. The turbodiesel in the BMW X6 xDrive30d delivers 173 kW (235 hp) and 520 Nm of torque, yet consumes just 8.2 l/100 km (EU composite figure). Even more efficient is the BMW X6 xDrive35d with its Variable Twin Turbo technology: here, two different-sized exhaust turbochargers work in sequence to deliver impressive power curves and high rpm. With 210 kW (286 hp) and 580 Nm of torque under the bonnet, the car sprints from 0 to 100 km/h in just 6.9 seconds - yet consumes a mere 8.3 l/100 km (EU composite figure)
xDrive
In the BMW X6, the all-wheel xDrive system provides better traction, higher stability and more safety. If the sensors detect that the car is about to drift off course - for example, in wintry conditions - the system reacts in milliseconds. By adjusting the amount of power that goes to the front and rear wheels, xDrive effectively nips over- or understeering in the bud. And when xDrive and Dynamic Performance Control join forces, the result is a whole new dimension in driving dynamics and traction.
